Heavy metal has evolved over the years. Punk rock has been introduced and some bands have totally discarded the influence of the blues. Some bands have adopted a more commercial sound to enable them to attract a more mainstream audience. Others have used a more aggressive style. Several sub genres have developed, like thrash metal, glam metal, death metal, black metal, nu metal and metalcore. But let’s not forget the bands who influenced the rock scene. Formed in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Slayer rose to fame with its 1986 release Reign in Blood, and is credited as one of the biggest thrash metal bands. Slayer’s musical style involves fast tremolo picking, double bass drumming, riffs in irregular scales and shouted vocals.
